Composition of black HDF core (HDF Black Core)

HDF (High Density Fiberboard) is an industrial wood made from natural wood powder, finely ground and compressed under very high pressure (>850–920 kg/m³), combined with glue and moisture-proof additives, forming a wood panel with higher density than regular MDF.

Black core HDF is a higher-end version, with the following characteristics:

• Dark finely ground wood pulp (due to the use of glue or moisture-proof additives – usually black or dark brown).
• Water-resistant and termite-resistant chemicals are added during the pressing process.
• Higher density than other cores, making the board stronger and limiting moisture absorption.

Main ingredients include:

• 80–85% natural wood pulp (from plantation wood)
• 10–15% melamine glue or urea formaldehyde (type E1 – European safety standard)
• 5–7% additives, dark colored binder

Can termites eat black HDF wood core?

No! It is very difficult for termites to penetrate black wood core for the following reasons:

✅High density: Black HDF core has high compression density (>920kg/m³), the wood structure is very dense, termites cannot destroy or create paths inside like natural wood.

✅ No more natural wood nutrients: Wood powder has been crushed and pressed, no longer containing living cellulose - the ingredient that termites often eat. Therefore, HDF wood core has almost no "food" for termites.

Black HDF wood core is not a food source for termites and has a very high termite resistance, especially in dry interior environments.

Water resistance of black HDF core

Compared with other types of industrial wood such as MDF, MFC or regular HDF, black HDF core is superior in moisture and water resistance:

✅ Soaked in water for up to 72 hours without blistering (applicable to standard wooden floors):  Practical experiments show that when soaked in water for 3 days, black HDF panels have a swelling rate of less than 8% - within the allowable limit.

✅ Good air humidity resistance: When used in humid environments, black wood core is less likely to warp or crack.

✅ Does not absorb water quickly:  Because of the compact structure, water has difficulty penetrating deep into the wood core. At the same time, if combined with a waterproof bottom coating (Melamine), the effect is even higher.

⚠️ Note: Black HDF core is water-resistant but not completely waterproof like plastic or MGO wood core is water-resistant - meaning it should not be submerged in water for a long time, but is very suitable for actual usage conditions.
